Fatal Shootout at Adventure Outdoors Store Leaves Smyrna Officers Injured, Suspect Killed
On Friday, September 27, 2024, at approximately 11:42 p.m., Smyrna Police responded to reports of shots fired near the intersection of South Cobb Drive and Glendale Road. The alarm at Adventure Outdoors, a local firearm retailer, also triggered officers to respond. Upon arrival, officers encountered an armed individual, and gunfire was exchanged.
The suspect retreated into the store, prompting police to establish a perimeter around the building. Cobb County Police arrived to provide backup. While officers attempted to call the armed individual out of the store, another exchange of gunfire occurred, during which two Smyrna officers were shot. Both officers were transported to a hospital and are expected to survive.
The armed suspect was fatally shot by officers during the confrontation. A SWAT team was later called in to secure the store and ensure no additional individuals were inside. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is conducting an investigation into the officer-involved shooting, as is standard protocol.
The suspect, who has yet to be identified, will undergo an autopsy at the Cobb County Medical Examiner’s Office.
