Newton County Deputies Investigate Multiple Threats at Schools

On September 13, 2024, deputies with the Newton County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) investigated several incidents within the Newton County School System involving students making verbal threats towards peers and staff. All involved students were arrested, charged accordingly, and referred to the Juvenile Court System.

Sheriff Ezell Brown is urging parents, students, faculty, community members, law enforcement, and clergy to unite in addressing these threats to prevent further arrests of children. The NCSO acknowledges the long-term effects an arrest can have on a child’s future development and stresses that threats or violent actions will not be tolerated, with those responsible being held accountable.
