Inmate Found Unresponsive at Chatham County Jail
On Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at approximately 10:40 p.m., the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) was called by the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office regarding an unresponsive inmate.
According to preliminary reports, on the same day around 6:10 p.m., a man arrived at Chatham County Jail following an arrest by the Savannah Police Department. Upon arrival, he underwent evaluation by jail medical staff and was subsequently referred to a hospital for medical clearance. After being discharged from the hospital, he returned to the jail where he was later discovered unresponsive in his cell.
The inmate, whose identity is currently being withheld pending notification of next of kin, was transported back to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The GBI Medical Examiner’s Office in Pooler, Georgia will conduct an autopsy on the inmate’s body.
