Man Refuses Tow Payment and Attempts to Drive Off Tow Truck, Shoots at Cook County Deputies
Rafael Rodriguez Morey

Last week, the Cook County Sheriff’s Office arrested 29-year-old Rafael Rodriguez Morey from Citrus County, Florida.

Morey’s vehicle broke down on I-75 in Cook County, Georgia, and was towed to a nearby gas station. Refusing to pay for the tow, Morey attempted to drive his car off the tow truck.

When deputies intervened, Morey pulled out a handgun and shot at one of them. Fortunately, the bullet only went through the deputy’s pants leg, causing no injury.

Morey surrendered after a standoff. He faces multiple serious charges in Cook County Jail, with additional charges pending.

Morey also had an open warrant from Citrus County, Florida, for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Once his Georgia charges are resolved, he will be transported back to Citrus County to face his warrant.
