Jamie Hunt Named Head Coach of Georgia Men’s Tennis Team
Former Bulldog All-American and National Champion Jamie Hunt will be the new head coach of the Georgia men’s tennis team. This was announced by Josh Brooks, the director of athletics, on Tuesday. Jamie Hunt played for the team and has been an assistant coach for seven years. He will start as head coach after this season.
“Coach Hunt knows what it takes to win,” said Josh Brooks. “He was a great player and has helped our team win as an assistant coach. He’s good with our players and has brought in top new players every year. I’m sure our fans, alumni, and players will be happy to have Jamie as our new coach.”
Jamie Hunt is happy about his new role. “Being the head coach of Georgia men’s tennis is a dream come true,” he said. “I can’t express how much this university and tennis team mean to me and my family. Thanks to President Morehead and Josh Brooks for giving me this chance to lead our great team.”
President Jere W. Morehead believes Hunt is the right choice. “He’s a great example for our players and meets the high standards we have for coaches and athletes,” he said.
Hunt’s time as an assistant coach has seen success, with many top new players joining the team. He was also part of the team that won the SEC Championship last season.
The current head coach, Manuel Diaz, praised Hunt’s appointment. “Jamie Hunt is perfect for this role. He was a great player and is a great coach. He’s a good person too,” Diaz said.
Before coming back to Georgia, Hunt worked as an assistant coach at Vanderbilt. There, he helped the team do well in tournaments.
Hunt was also a successful player, winning the U.S. Open Junior Doubles Championships. He’s also won many awards for his leadership and sportsmanship.
Hunt and his wife, Kyndal Edwards Hunt, both went to the University of Georgia. They have five children.
