Four Arrested, Fentanyl and Meth Seized in Coffee County Drug Investigation

DOUGLAS, Ga. — A multi-agency narcotics investigation has resulted in the arrest of four people and the seizure of significant quantities of suspected fentanyl and methamphetamine in Coffee County.

According to the Douglas-Coffee Drug Unit, the investigation was conducted with assistance from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office D.I.C.E. Unit and the Bacon County Sheriff’s Office.

The investigation began June 15, 2026, when agents conducted a traffic stop on Michael “Shy” Spearman during an ongoing drug investigation.

Authorities said Spearman fled on foot but was quickly apprehended. Agents recovered approximately 28.8 grams of suspected methamphetamine and 13.4 grams of suspected fentanyl.

Spearman was charged with Trafficking in Methamphetamine and Trafficking in Fentanyl.

As the investigation continued, agents executed a search at the residence of Rhonda Nipper, where they recovered suspected methamphetamine, fentanyl, and drug paraphernalia.

Nipper was charged with Possession of Methamphetamine and Possession of Fentanyl.

Investigators later arrested Megan Hersey and Frances Amanda Thrift.

According to authorities, Hersey was found with approximately 24.4 grams of suspected fentanyl and was charged with Trafficking in Fentanyl.

Thrift was allegedly found in possession of suspected methamphetamine and fentanyl and was determined to have participated in a fentanyl transaction.

She was charged with Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Fentanyl, and Conspiracy to Commit Trafficking in Fentanyl.

In total, investigators seized approximately 37.4 grams of suspected fentanyl and 32.9 grams of suspected methamphetamine.

Sheriff Fred T. Cole credited the success of the investigation to cooperation among the participating agencies and said law enforcement will continue targeting illegal drug trafficking in Coffee County.

The investigation remains active, and authorities said additional arrests and charges are possible.

All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
