GBI Identifies Man Killed in Oconee County Deputy-Involved Shooting
WATKINSVILLE, Ga. — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has identified the man who was fatally shot by an Oconee County sheriff’s deputy during a welfare check Thursday evening.
According to the GBI, 43-year-old Michael Randolph Frohock of Watkinsville was killed during the incident. No deputies were injured.
The shooting occurred at approximately 7:22 p.m. on June 25 after Oconee County E-911 received a call reporting a suicidal man armed with a knife.
Deputies with the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home in the 1000 block of Friar Road to conduct a welfare check.
Preliminary information indicates deputies approached Frohock upon arriving at the residence. During the encounter, Frohock displayed a firearm, and at least one deputy fired, striking him.
Deputies immediately began lifesaving measures, but Frohock was pronounced dead at the scene.
His body has been transported to the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office, where an autopsy will be conducted.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is conducting an independent investigation at the request of the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office. Once completed, the case will be turned over to the appropriate prosecuting authority for review.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
