Four Arrested, Including 15-Year-Old Charged as Adult, in Fatal Hiram Shooting During THC Vape Deal
HIRAM, Ga. — Four suspects have been arrested and charged with murder following the fatal shooting of a young man during what investigators believe was an attempted THC vape transaction in Hiram.
According to the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the area near 107 Chamberlyn Lane after reports of a shooting. When they arrived, they found a young man suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.
Investigators said the victim had arranged to meet with the suspects to purchase a THC vape cartridge. During the encounter, the suspects allegedly fired two shots at the victim.
The victim managed to run from the scene before collapsing in the roadway. Authorities said he was not breathing when firefighters arrived and was later pronounced dead. He was identified as 18-year-old Sir Ethan-Dupree Jones.
Following the shooting, the sheriff’s office launched a large-scale investigation involving the Criminal Investigations Division, Crime Scene Investigators, Patrol Deputies, the Warrants Unit, Intelligence Division, Drug Task Force agents and the SWAT Team.
Investigators reviewed surveillance footage from nearby homes, including Ring doorbell cameras, and utilized Flock camera technology to identify a vehicle believed to have left the scene. The investigation led authorities to a specific truck and associated license plate information.
On the morning of June 18, SWAT deputies executed a search warrant at a residence connected to the vehicle.
Three of the four suspects were arrested during that operation, while the fourth suspect was taken into custody later the same day.
Authorities identified the suspects as:
- Justin Mason Joseph, 15, charged as an adult
- Monsour Darwish, 17
- Muhamad Rabeea Darwish, 19
- Mohammad Basem Khatib, 20
All four suspects are charged with:
- Felony Murder
- Malice Murder
- Aggravated Assault
- Aggravated Battery
- Tampering with Evidence
- Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime
The sheriff’s office said the arrests were made less than 24 hours after authorities publicly identified the suspects.
The investigation remains ongoing.
