Fort Valley Police Reserve Sergeant Found Dead at Jonesboro Residence, Investigation Ongoing
JONESBORO, Ga. — The Clayton County Police Department is investigating the death of a Fort Valley police reserve sergeant who was found unresponsive outside a residence in Jonesboro.
Officers responded at approximately 9 a.m. on June 13, 2026, to the 70 block of Upper Riverdale Road after receiving a report of an unresponsive person.
When officers arrived, they found the front door of the residence open and discovered an individual lying in the driveway.
The Clayton County Fire Department responded to the scene and pronounced the individual deceased.
Authorities identified the deceased as James Edward Sinkfield, a Reserve Sergeant with the Fort Valley Police Department.
According to investigators, detectives have found no evidence of a physical altercation or foul play. An initial examination of the body at the scene revealed no apparent signs of trauma.
Based on the information available so far, investigators believe the death may have been the result of a medical emergency. However, officials emphasized that the official cause and manner of death remain pending a medical examination.
Clayton County Police detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Sinkfield’s death and said a thorough review of the incident is underway.
