Man Sentenced to Life Without Parole for Brutal 2022 Killing in Ellenwood
CLAYTON COUNTY, Georgia – The Clayton County District Attorney’s Office announced the conviction of a man accused of fatally stabbing his roommate more than 75 times in Ellenwood.
According to prosecutors, a Clayton County jury found Justin Bryant guilty of malice murder, felony murder, and aggravated assault in the death of Edward Gallaher.
Investigators said the killing occurred Aug. 5, 2022, at a makeshift boarding house in Ellenwood.
Authorities said Bryant called 911 after the attack and told dispatchers he had “just killed a man.”
When officers arrived, they discovered Gallaher dead inside the residence with dozens of stab wounds.
According to evidence presented during trial, Bryant later told investigators that “the birds were singing at him and told him to do it.”
Detectives said Bryant admitted he became angry and irritated while sitting in the room he shared with Gallaher before picking up a knife and repeatedly stabbing the victim.
After the attack, investigators said Bryant changed clothes and fled the scene.
Senior Judge Albert Collier sentenced Bryant to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
The case was prosecuted by Deputy Chief Assistant District Attorney Nigel Hunter.
Investigators Jennifer Langley and Ponda Maine, along with victim advocates Carla Dixon and Maria Dillard, also assisted with the prosecution.
Tasha M. Mosley said the conviction reflects the office’s commitment to seeking justice for violent crimes and expressed hope that the outcome brings comfort to Gallaher’s family and friends.
