Arrest Made in Fatal Shooting of 16-Year-Old in Clayton County

JONESBORO, Ga. — The Clayton County Police Department has arrested a suspect in connection with the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old male that occurred on June 19 in the 800 block of Mt. Zion Road.

According to police, detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division identified Joshua Clinton as a suspect following an extensive investigation into the homicide.

Investigators determined the shooting stemmed from an ongoing dispute involving multiple individuals that escalated into a violent confrontation.

On June 23, detectives developed additional evidence through follow-up interviews and investigative leads, allowing them to identify witnesses and establish probable cause for criminal charges.

With assistance from the United States Marshals Service and the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office, Clinton was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Clayton County Jail.

Clinton faces multiple charges, including:

  • Murder
  • Aggravated Assault
  • Reckless Conduct
  • Cruelty to Children
  • Contributing to the Deprivation of a Child Resulting in Serious Injury or Death
  • Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon
  • Battery
  • Tampering with Evidence
  • Discharging a Firearm Near a Public Roadway

During the investigation, detectives also linked Clinton to a separate shooting incident that occurred after the homicide. Authorities said additional charges related to that case have also been obtained.

The identity of the 16-year-old victim has not been released.

Police said the investigation remains active as detectives continue pursuing additional leads and evaluating the possible involvement of other individuals.
