Milledgeville Man Sentenced to 30 Years After Conviction in 2024 Shooting
MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. — A Baldwin County jury has convicted a man in connection with a 2024 shooting at a local residence, resulting in a lengthy prison sentence.
Milton McDonald, 54, was found guilty of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in the shooting that occurred on North Clarke Street.
According to prosecutors, the incident took place on the morning of October 17, 2024, when the victim reported being shot and robbed inside his home by a man he knew as “New York,” later identified as McDonald.
Investigators with the Milledgeville Police Department and the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office identified McDonald as the suspect and obtained surveillance video from The Milledgeville Manor showing activity before and after the shooting.
Authorities said McDonald fled to North Carolina, where he was arrested in November 2024.
Evidence presented at trial included a sweatshirt McDonald discarded after the shooting that tested positive for gunshot residue. Testimony from McDonald’s wife indicated she had seen him with a revolver in the days leading up to the incident, and investigators said the victim was shot with a revolver.
Prosecutors also noted McDonald had prior felony convictions, including theft by receiving, theft by shoplifting and burglary, making it illegal for him to possess a firearm.
McDonald was acquitted of an armed robbery charge.
Following the conviction, Superior Court Judge Brenda H. Trammell sentenced McDonald to 30 years in prison after a three-day trial.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Nancy Scott Moskaly with assistance from Mercer Law School intern Jordan Bell. Officials credited investigators and forensic teams, including the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Department of Forensic Services, for their work on the case.
