Inmate Charged After Threatening to Kill Probation Officer in Recorded Jail Call

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — An inmate is facing new charges after allegedly making a death threat against a probation officer during a recorded jail phone call, according to the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities say the incident came to light on March 23, 2026, when the Sheriff’s Office Jail Intelligence Unit received information about the threat.

During the call, inmate 59-year-old Stephen Duane Stillwell of Grayson, GA, reportedly stated that upon his release, he intended to ingest cocaine and kill his probation officer.

Investigators immediately notified the probation officer and conducted an interview with Stillwell. Following the investigation, warrants were obtained charging him with Terroristic Threats and Acts.

Officials emphasized that all threats of violence are taken seriously and said the agency remains committed to protecting both the public and members of the criminal justice system.

Stillwell has been in custody at the Gwinnett County Jail since February 27, 2026. He has been held without bond on a Probation Violation charge.
