Athens-Clarke County Man Sentenced to 25 Years in Shooting Case

ATHENS, Ga. — An Athens-Clarke County man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison following his conviction in a shooting that left a victim seriously injured.

On February 5, 2026, a jury found David Ray Wilhelm guilty of Aggravated Assault and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony. The charges stem from a January 26, 2025, shooting in the area of Nellie B Avenue.

According to evidence presented at trial, Wilhelm shot Anthony Antonio Williams and fled the scene without rendering aid. Williams survived the shooting.

Authorities said Wilhelm was later apprehended while in possession of a handgun and a silencer.

He was sentenced to a total of 25 years, with the first 15 years to be served in prison.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Brian Dille and Sam Routh, with assistance from Senior Investigator Kevin Hooks and Victim Advocate Heather Moore.

The Athens-Clarke County Police Department and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation assisted in the investigation.
