Georgia Sets Execution Date for Stacey Humphreys in Brutal 2003 Double Murder
Stacey Humphreys

ATLANTA, Ga. – Attorney General Chris Carr announced that Stacey Humphreys is scheduled to be executed on December 17, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. for the 2003 murders of Cyndi Williams and Lori Brown. Humphreys has completed all direct appeals as well as state and federal habeas corpus proceedings, clearing the way for the execution.

The Crimes
On November 3, 2003, Humphreys, a convicted felon on parole, entered a model home sales office in Cobb County where Williams and Brown worked as real estate agents. He used a stolen handgun to coerce Williams into undressing and revealing the PIN for her ATM card, then tied her underwear tightly around her neck. Humphreys shot Williams twice—once through her back and again through her head—while using a bag of balloons to muffle the sound.

Shortly afterward, Brown entered the office. Humphreys forced her to undress and disclose her ATM PIN as well, then shot her in the head using a bag of balloons and her folded blouse to muffle the sound. He stole the victims’ ATM and credit cards and driver’s licenses, withdrawing over $3,000 from their accounts within days of the murders. Humphreys admitted to police that he knew he committed the crimes and cited financial strain from payday loans and his truck as a motive.

Investigation and Arrest
The police quickly identified Humphreys as a suspect after a co-worker noted his absence and linked him to a Dodge Durango seen near the crime scene. He evaded police for several days before being apprehended in Wisconsin, where authorities recovered the murder weapon and additional evidence linking him to both murders.

Trial and Convictions
Humphreys was indicted in 2004 on charges including malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, kidnapping with bodily injury, armed robbery, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. His jury trial began in September 2007. On September 25, 2007, Humphreys was found guilty of all counts and pled guilty to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The jury recommended the death penalty for both murders, which the court imposed, along with life imprisonment for kidnapping and armed robbery and concurrent prison terms for aggravated assault and firearm possession.

Appeals and Habeas Proceedings
Humphreys pursued multiple appeals. His convictions and death sentences were affirmed by the Georgia Supreme Court in 2010. The U.S. Supreme Court denied his petition for certiorari that same year. Humphreys filed state habeas corpus petitions beginning in 2011, all of which were denied, including appeals to the Georgia Supreme Court and later the U.S. Supreme Court. Federal habeas petitions filed in 2018 were denied by the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, and subsequent appeals to the Eleventh Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court were unsuccessful, with the final denial of certiorari issued on October 21, 2025.

Scheduled Execution
The Superior Court of Cobb County set a seven-day execution window, running from noon on December 17, 2025, to noon on December 24, 2025. Humphreys’ execution is set for 7:00 p.m. on December 17, pending any last-minute legal developments.
