Shooting and Assault Reported at Cordele Waffle House
UPDATE: On Sunday morning, November 16th, a Cordele Police officer spotted the shooting suspect from the Waffle House incident on the front porch of a residence in the city. A quick coordinated effort was implemented between the Cordele Police Department and the Crisp County Sheriff’s Office which resulted in the successful arrest of 20-year-old Kelwin Jackson of Cordele. Jackson was arrested without incident, and a firearm was recovered.
Jackson has been charged with Aggravated Assault with more charges pending as the investigation progresses.
A second suspect was identified as being 27-year-old Jermall Burks of Cordele. Burks was located at a residence in Cordele and was escorted to the Police Department by officers and deputies. Burks has been charged with Battery, but other charges may be added.

Cordele, GA – The Cordele Police Department is investigating a violent incident that unfolded early Saturday morning at the Waffle House in Cordele.
Officers were dispatched around 3:33 a.m. after receiving reports of a disturbance involving gunfire. When officers arrived, they found two adult men injured. One victim had been shot multiple times, while the second had been beaten by several individuals.
Both men were taken for medical treatment and are currently receiving care. Police confirmed that no Waffle House employees were injured during the incident.
One person of interest was detained at the scene but was later released after speaking with investigators. No arrests have been made, and the case remains open.
The department thanked the responding officers for quickly securing the area and acknowledged the Crisp County Sheriff’s Office for assisting at the scene, including providing emergency first aid to the shooting victim.
