Carroll County Man Sentenced to 125.5 Years for Ambush on Deputies
renton Dale Chase has been sentenced to 125.5 years in prison following his conviction for a violent ambush on Carroll County deputies during a 2024 manhunt. A jury found Chase guilty on multiple felony charges, including Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer, Felony Fleeing and Attempting to Elude, Theft by Taking a Motor Vehicle, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime, and Criminal Attempt.
Superior Court Judge Erica Tisinger handed down the sentence on November 12, 2025, ordering that each term run consecutively. Chase will serve decades in the Georgia Department of Corrections before becoming eligible for release.
The incident began on August 22, 2024, when Whitesburg Police pursued a stolen Dodge pickup truck linked to Chase. After crashing the truck off Acorn Creek Road, Chase fled into a wooded area. As deputies arrived, he ambushed them—firing multiple shotgun rounds at their patrol cars. Miraculously, no deputies were injured.
A massive multi-agency response followed, involving the Georgia State Patrol Aviation Unit, Carroll County SWAT, the ACE Unit, and local deputies. Hours later, a nearby resident reported an armed man had entered her home. SWAT officers responded swiftly and, with the homeowner’s consent, safely took Chase into custody. He was found armed, intoxicated, and in possession of multiple firearms and drug paraphernalia.
Sergeant Tyler North led the investigation, coordinating evidence collection and case development with the Criminal Investigations Division. His work proved critical in securing the conviction.
The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office expressed gratitude to the District Attorney’s Office and all partner agencies for their collaboration.
“The actions of every deputy, investigator, SWAT operator, drone pilot, and responding agency prevented a tragedy,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. “This conviction ensures a dangerous individual is no longer a threat to our community.”
