Two Men Arrested After Columbus Police Seize Over 16 Pounds of Marijuana and Firearms

The Columbus Police Department’s Special Operations Unit arrested two men after a narcotics investigation led to the seizure of more than 16 pounds of marijuana, two firearms, and cash.

Investigators began looking into Eric Gibbs for distributing narcotics in the Columbus area. Gibbs was seen driving a 2020 Ford Fusion, and with assistance from the Georgia State Patrol and the Georgia Department of Motor Carrier Compliance, officers conducted a traffic stop for a traffic violation.

During the stop, probable cause was established to search the vehicle, leading to the discovery of about 16 pounds of marijuana valued at $74,413 and a handgun. Gibbs was taken into custody.

A search warrant was later executed at Gibbs’ residence, where investigators found an additional 182.8 grams of marijuana valued at $1,828, another firearm, and $3,885 in cash. Justin Harris, who was at the residence, was also arrested.

Gibbs was charged with Trafficking Marijuana, Possession of Drug Related Objects, and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime. Harris was charged with Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, and Possession of Drug Related Objects.

The Columbus Police Department credited the Special Operations Unit, the Georgia State Patrol, and the Georgia Department of Motor Carrier Compliance for their coordinated efforts in the investigation.
