Savannah-Chatham Teacher Arrested for  Grooming a Minor for a Sexual Offense

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Chatham County Police Department (CCPD) has arrested a Savannah-Chatham County Public School System (SCCPSS) teacher, Jawan Johnson, 32, of Pooler, and charged him with Grooming a Minor for a Sexual Offense.

Johnson was arrested by CCPD detectives on Sunday evening, October 19th, and booked into the Chatham County Detention Center. Authorities confirmed the victim in the case is a previous student of Johnson’s.

School District Responds to Arrest

Following the announcement of the arrest, the SCCPSS released a statement confirming they are aware of the charges. The district noted that Johnson has been immediately reassigned to a non-school-based position where there is no student contact, pending the outcome of the investigation.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Johnson has been employed as a Social Studies Teacher in the SCCPSS since September 2020, and previously worked in the district as a Special Education Paraprofessional. He holds a Master of Education from Georgia Southern University.

The SCCPSS stated: “The safety and well-being of our students is our highest priority… Any behavior that compromises these values is not tolerated and will be addressed swiftly and appropriately.” The district confirmed it is fully cooperating with law enforcement.

The CCPD has stated that the investigation is active and ongoing and no further information will be released at this time.
