Suspicious Device Shuts Down I-75 in Cobb County
Cobb County, GA — On Friday, October 17, 2025, at about 3:46 p.m., a motorist called 911 after spotting what appeared to be a pipe bomb on I-75 southbound.
Cobb County Police and Fire crews quickly responded, locating the suspicious item on the roadway. Out of caution, officers shut down the interstate to keep drivers at a safe distance while the Cobb County Police Bomb Squad was called in.
The bomb technicians safely removed the item and transported it in a containment truck for further examination. Once it was determined to be safe, the roadway was reopened.
Investigators found that the object was a section of pipe with threaded end caps and wires attached to each end. After inspection, it was confirmed that the pipe was empty and contained no explosive materials.
Authorities have not yet determined how the item ended up on the roadway or whether it was placed there intentionally.
The incident prompted a multi-agency response involving the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office, Marietta Police Department, Georgia State Patrol, and other local and federal partners.
Officials thanked the public for their patience and urged residents to report any suspicious activity or items to law enforcement immediately.
