Acworth Police Locate Missing, Endangered North Carolina Man with Dementia

Acworth Police officers, during a routine patrol late on the evening of June 16, 2025, safely located a 67-year-old North Carolina man reported missing and endangered due to dementia.
At approximately 11:54 p.m., officers observed a black Toyota Highlander with North Carolina plates traveling with a flat front tire near the intersection of Main Street and Church Street. A traffic stop was initiated to conduct a welfare check on the driver, identified as John Gullett Jr., of Asheboro, North Carolina.
During their interaction, officers noted signs of confusion and possible medical distress in Mr. Gullett. He appeared unaware of the flat tire and provided conflicting details about his current location and intended destination. A records check through the Georgia Crime Information Center (GCIC) and National Crime Information Center (NCIC) confirmed that he had been reported missing on June 14, 2025, by the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office (NC) and was classified as endangered due to a dementia diagnosis.
Metro EMS was called to evaluate Mr. Gullett at the scene. Officers LeFave and Hatcher were able to build a rapport with him, reassuring him of his safety and convincing him to be evaluated at Kennestone Hospital.
Mr. Gullett’s family and the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office were immediately notified of his safe recovery and medical care. The Acworth Police Department commended Officers LeFave and Hatcher for their attentiveness, professionalism, and compassionate response in resolving the situation safely.
