Multi-Agency Effort Leads to Arrest of Toombs County Fugitive in Florida

A coordinated effort involving the Toombs County Sheriff’s Office, the U.S. Marshall Fugitive Unit, the Department of Natural Resources (DNR), and the Appling County Sheriff’s Office has resulted in the apprehension of Christopher Byrne in Nassau County, Florida.

Byrne was wanted on outstanding warrants from Toombs County for Aggravated Assault and False Imprisonment, stemming from a domestic violence investigation on February 16, 2025. Following the initial incident, Byrne fled on foot, leading to multiple searches by the Toombs County Sheriff’s Office and DNR.

Further investigation revealed Byrne’s connections to Appling County, prompting a joint investigation that included searching various locations with the Appling County Sheriff’s Office. This collaboration suggested Byrne had likely left Toombs County and was in South Georgia.

The Toombs County Sheriff’s Office then requested the assistance of the U.S. Marshall Fugitive Unit, which ultimately located and apprehended Byrne in Nassau County, Florida, on March 21, 2025.

Byrne is now in custody at the Toombs County Detention Center. He is being held on a $10,000 bond related to the Toombs County charges, as well as a felony probation warrant from Appling County.
