Utility Truck Driver Killed in Head-On Collision on Bass Road in Macon
MACON, Ga. — A 36-year-old man was killed Monday morning after his utility truck crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with a commercial vehicle on Bass Road, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash was reported to the Macon-Bibb E-911 Center at approximately 10:05 a.m. on June 15, 2026.
Deputies responding to the scene near the intersection of Bass Road and Westchester Drive found a collision involving a Peterbilt 348 commercial vehicle and a Chevrolet GMT 3500 utility truck.
According to investigators, a red sedan was stopped in the westbound lane of Bass Road preparing to turn left onto Westchester Drive.
The driver of the utility truck was traveling westbound and approaching the stopped sedan when he maneuvered into the eastbound lane in an apparent attempt to avoid a collision.
Authorities said the utility truck then entered oncoming traffic and collided head-on with the eastbound Peterbilt commercial vehicle.
The impact caused the utility truck to overturn.
The utility truck driver, identified as 36-year-old Robert Thomas Jackson, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by Deputy Coroner Luann Stone.
Officials said Jackson’s family has been notified.
The 62-year-old driver of the Peterbilt was treated at the scene by paramedics before being transported to a local hospital. Medical personnel reported that he was listed in stable condition.
No other injuries were reported.
The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Fatality Investigation Unit is continuing to investigate the crash.
