The shooting was reported to the Macon-Bibb Emergency 911 Center at 5:33 p.m. Sunday at the Circle K located at 3391 Mercer University Drive.

Deputies responding to the scene found an unidentified woman suffering from a gunshot wound. Investigators said the victim had been involved in a verbal altercation with an unknown man before she was shot in the parking lot.

Authorities said the woman fled from the suspect after the shooting but was struck by a vehicle traveling west on Mercer University Drive. She was transported by ambulance to a local hospital, where she remains in critical condition.

During the investigation, deputies identified the suspect as a Black male wearing a yellow T-shirt and dark pants who was seen leaving the area in a silver Buick Enclave.

At approximately 7:35 p.m., deputies located a silver Buick Enclave at the Marathon Gas Station at 5013 Harrison Road. Investigators said an individual matching the suspect’s description was inside the vehicle.

As deputies approached, the suspect allegedly brandished a firearm. Deputies issued multiple verbal commands for him to stop and drop the weapon, but authorities said he fled the scene in the vehicle.

Deputies pursued the suspect for a short distance before immobilizing the vehicle on Harrison Road south of Chambers Road.

According to the sheriff’s office, the armed suspect refused to exit the vehicle and fired shots while remaining inside. The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team, Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit and negotiators responded to assist.

At 9:09 p.m., SWAT team members took 35-year-old Delmar Tavaris Eugene Black into custody without further incident. Authorities said the firearm was recovered, and paramedics treated Black for injuries sustained during his apprehension.
