Greene County Sheriff Provides Update on Union Point Shooting that Injured Teen

UNION POINT, Georgia – The Greene County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting Monday evening that left an 18-year-old injured in the Union Point area.

Deputies were dispatched around 6:10 p.m. May 25 to the area of Park Avenue in Union Point after receiving reports of gunfire.

While deputies were responding, dispatchers received additional information about a person dressed in black clothing walking toward North Rhodes Street carrying what appeared to be a long gun, according to investigators.

Authorities said deputies later determined the initial shooting incident occurred near Barnes Street.

During the investigation, deputies were then dispatched to a residence at 1510 Cato Road regarding a person who had been shot.

Investigators said deputies discovered the two incidents were connected.

Deputies located 18-year-old Jamarious Burke suffering from a single gunshot wound to the lower back and hip area.

Officials described Burke’s injuries as non-life-threatening.

Emergency crews with Greene County EMS responded to the scene, treated Burke, and transported him to Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center for further medical treatment.

Authorities secured both scenes and notified investigators, who later requested assistance from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Region 6 Office in Milledgeville.

The shooting remains under active investigation.
