Construction Worker Killed in Early Morning Crash on GA 400 in Sandy Springs

SANDY SPRINGS, Georgia – A construction worker was killed early Thursday after being struck by a vehicle on GA 400 southbound near Abernathy Road in Sandy Springs, according to police.

The Sandy Springs Police Department said officers responded around 1:13 a.m. on May 21 to a reported crash with injuries near the entrance to Exit 4.

When officers arrived, they found several work trucks blocking the roadway. Police said an adult male construction worker was located in the middle of the highway and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators later located a gray Toyota Tacoma with significant damage approximately 250 yards south of the initial crash scene, resting against the right-side wall of the highway.

Authorities said the victim was actively working on the highway at the time of the crash.

The driver of the Toyota Tacoma has been charged with violating Georgia’s Move Over Law, speeding, and homicide by vehicle in the second degree.

Police said the investigation remains active and ongoing.
