Operation Red Recoil Leads to 74 Arrests, Drug and Gun Seizures in Richmond County
AUGUSTA, Ga. — The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office announced the results of a five-day gang enforcement initiative that led to dozens of arrests, firearms recoveries, and major drug seizures across Richmond County.
The operation, known as “Operation Red Recoil,” was conducted from May 12 through May 16, 2026, by the sheriff’s office Gang Unit alongside multiple local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.
According to investigators, the initiative targeted areas identified through crime analysis and intelligence as having elevated gang activity, violent crime, narcotics trafficking, and firearm-related offenses.
Deputies conducted targeted warrant services on known gang members and associates with active warrants while also carrying out focused patrols and traffic enforcement in high-crime areas throughout the county.
Authorities said the goals of the operation included reducing gang violence, recovering illegal firearms, disrupting narcotics trafficking, apprehending violent offenders, and gathering intelligence tied to organized criminal enterprises.
Agencies assisting in the operation included the Georgia State Patrol, Georgia State Patrol Aviation Division, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Federal Bureau of Investigation Safe Streets Gang Task Force, United States Marshals Service, and the Georgia Attorney General’s Office.
Sheriff Eugene Brantley said violent crime, gang activity, and illegal drugs would not be tolerated in the community.
According to the sheriff’s office, Operation Red Recoil resulted in:
- 74 total arrests
- 24 suspected gang member arrests
- 29 firearms recovered
- $33,520 in cash seized
- 5,124 grams of marijuana seized
- 676 grams of fentanyl seized
- 40 grams of cocaine seized
- 3.3 grams of methamphetamine seized
- 75 oxycodone pills recovered
- Eight residential search warrants executed
- Two stolen vehicles recovered
- 21 DUI arrests
- 81 citations issued
- 126 warnings issued
Officials said the sheriff’s office will continue working with partner agencies to target violent crime and gang-related activity throughout Richmond County.
