International Fugitive Wanted for Killing Wife in Brazil Arrested in Sandy Springs
SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. — An international fugitive wanted for homicide in Brazil has been arrested in Sandy Springs through a joint effort between local police and federal immigration authorities, officials said.
Job Da Luz De Freitas-Junior, a Brazilian national, was taken into custody on Friday, April 30th, by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations Atlanta. Authorities said he is wanted in Brazil on pending homicide charges related to the killing of his wife.
Officials said the suspect will remain in ICE custody pending removal proceedings and is expected to be deported to Brazil to face those charges.
Earlier that day, ICE contacted the Sandy Springs Police Department regarding information that the fugitive may be in the area. Authorities also indicated the suspect may have been involved in ongoing physical abuse of another woman.
With limited identifying information available, the Sandy Springs Police Department’s Criminal Intelligence Unit launched an investigation and developed leads that helped pinpoint the suspect’s location. That information was shared with ICE agents, who were able to locate and arrest him without incident.
Officials said the case reflects coordination between local and federal agencies in identifying and apprehending individuals wanted for violent crimes.
