Twiggs County Deputies Rescue Missing Man with Mental Illness Found Walking Interstate 16

On the early morning of August 6, Corporal Perry of the Twiggs County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to investigate a suspicious person walking along Interstate 16 wearing only shorts. Upon arrival, Perry discovered the man was struggling with mental illness and had been missing for 24 hours.
The man’s father, who had been searching for him and drove from Forsyth to Tybee Island, arrived to pick him up. The man had an injured wrist that was bandaged, and deputies, including Deputy Hinton and Jail Sgt. Liranzo, provided him with a bed, blanket, food, and water at the Sheriff’s Office.
The father expressed deep gratitude, saying, “I am so grateful. My prayers have been answered.”
Officials emphasize that mental illness is treatable and encourage anyone who encounters someone suffering to help them seek support. Community resources are available on the Twiggs County Sheriff’s Office website at twiggscounty.us.
