Stone Mountain Man Sentenced to Life Without Parole for Killing Pregnant Girlfriend and Unborn Child

A Stone Mountain man has been convicted and sentenced in the 2023 shooting death of his pregnant girlfriend, an attack that also led to the death of their infant daughter four months later.
On Friday, May 9, 2025, a DeKalb County jury found 24-year-old Diamonte Haithcoats guilty of Malice Murder, two counts of Felony Murder, Aggravated Assault – Family Violence, and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony in the death of 20-year-old Shaniyah Rodriguez and her baby, Milliani Rodriguez.
According to the investigation, around 5:45 a.m. on February 2, 2023, a resident of a condominium complex on Old Singleton Lane in unincorporated Clarkston reported hearing gunshots and found Rodriguez unresponsive on the ground with a gunshot wound to the head. She was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital, where doctors performed an emergency cesarean section to deliver her baby. Rodriguez died two days later. Milliani Rodriguez died on June 19, 2023.
Detectives recovered seven rifle shell casings from the scene. A dark-colored SUV was seen leaving the area shortly after the shooting. Surveillance footage from Flock Safety cameras showed a dark blue Hyundai Palisade exiting the complex at 5:46 a.m. The vehicle was later recovered and confirmed to have been stolen.
Data from the victim’s phone revealed it had connected to the Palisade’s Bluetooth system just minutes before the 911 call. When police activated Rodriguez’s phone near the recovered SUV, it automatically reconnected to the vehicle’s Bluetooth.
Phone records for Haithcoats showed that his device left the complex immediately after the shooting. When questioned, Haithcoats denied living with Rodriguez or being the father of her child. However, investigators learned that in the days leading up to her death, Rodriguez had expressed fear for her safety due to the deterioration of their relationship.
Following the jury’s verdict, DeKalb County Superior Court Judge Yolanda Parker-Smith sentenced Haithcoats to two life sentences without the possibility of parole, plus five additional years.
The case was prosecuted by the Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Unit, led by Senior Assistant District Attorney Paige Boorman, with support from Senior Assistant District Attorney Elizabeth Tarver, District Attorney Investigator Andre Williams, and Victim Advocate Britney Winley. Detective D.D. Evans of the DeKalb County Police Department led the investigation.
