Eight Arrested, Two Sought in Remerton Gang-Related Shooting that Injured Deputy, Killed Two

Following a joint investigation by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) and the Remerton Police Department, ten individuals have been arrested and charged with felony offenses related to a gang-related shooting on November 1, 2024, that injured a Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office deputy and resulted in the deaths of two individuals.

The incident occurred at approximately 1:30 a.m. when a large crowd, allegedly affiliated with rival criminal street gangs “Bangkrew” and “6block,” engaged in a fight in the 1900 block of Baytree Place in Remerton. Two Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office deputies working security attempted to separate the groups. As the dispute intensified, multiple gunshots were fired. One deputy was shot in his protective vest and was treated and released from a local hospital.

During the altercation, Jastain Darrisaw, 20, of Valdosta, sustained multiple gunshot wounds and died at South Georgia Medical Center. Lajoespet Wells, 31, of Dothan, Alabama, was shot by two deputies and pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities recovered numerous firearms and casings, which were submitted to the GBI Crime Lab for analysis.

The ten individuals arrested and their charges are:

  • Talonnie Rogers, 24, of Valdosta: Party to the Crime of Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer, Participation in Criminal Street Gang Activity (2 counts), Possession of a Firearm During a Crime. (Already in Lowndes County Jail)
  • Umar Bryant, 26, of Valdosta: Party to the Crime of Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer, Participation in Criminal Street Gang Activity (2 counts), Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Possession of a Firearm During a Crime. (Already in Lowndes County Jail)
  • Jaquavious Neal, 21, of Valdosta: Party to the Crime of Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer, Participation in Criminal Street Gang Activity (2 counts), Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Possession of a Firearm During a Crime. (Already in Lowndes County Jail)
  • Jamarion Clements, 17, of Valdosta: Party to the Crime of Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer (2 counts), Participation in Criminal Street Gang Activity (4 counts), Possession of a Firearm During a Crime. (Already in Lowndes County Jail)
  • Bernard Morrison, 25, of Valdosta: Party to the Crime of Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer, Participation in Criminal Street Gang Activity (2 counts). (Booked into Lowndes County Jail)
  • Jacori Morrison, 22, of Valdosta: Party to the Crime of Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer, Participation in Criminal Street Gang Activity (2 counts). (Arrested in Panama City, FL)
  • Cameron Little, 25, of Valdosta: Party to the Crime of Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer, Participation in Criminal Street Gang Activity (2 counts), Possession of a Firearm During a Crime. (Booked into Lowndes County Jail)
  • Cameron Roberts, 25, of Valdosta: Party to the Crime of Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer, Participation in Criminal Street Gang Activity (2 counts). (In Jackson State Prison on unrelated offense)

Two additional individuals are being actively sought by law enforcement:

  • Devante Crumitie, 24, of Valdosta: Party to the Crime of Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer, Participation in Criminal Street Gang Activity (2 counts). (Do not approach, call 911 if seen)
  • Jailen Bryant, 17, of Valdosta: Party to the Crime of Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer, Participation in Criminal Street Gang Activity (2 counts), Possession of a Firearm During a Crime. (Do not approach, call 911 if seen)

The GBI and Remerton Police Department expressed their appreciation for the assistance of the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office, the Valdosta Police Department, the U.S. Marshals Service, and the District Attorney’s Office for the Southern Judicial Circuit. The separate use of force investigations related to this incident are ongoing, and additional charges are expected as the investigation continues.
