GBI Investigating Fatal Officer-Involved Shooting in Dooly County Following High-Speed Chase

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Dooly County that occurred early Friday morning, April 4, 2025, resulting in the death of a woman and injury to a Turner County Sheriff’s deputy. The investigation was requested by the Turner County Sheriff’s Office.

Preliminary information indicates that at approximately 2:00 a.m., Turner County deputies began assisting the Cook County Sheriff’s Office with a vehicle pursuit that originated in Cook County. Cook County deputies had attempted to stop a Cadillac sedan on Interstate 75 for speeding in excess of 100 mph.

The chase continued into Dooly County, ending in the northbound lanes near Exit 109. Law enforcement utilized a PIT maneuver to stop the Cadillac. As deputies approached the vehicle and attempted to engage with the driver, the driver opened fire, striking one of the Turner County deputies. In response, deputies returned fire, hitting the driver.

The driver of the Cadillac was pronounced dead at the scene. The injured deputy was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries, which are not considered life-threatening.

The GBI’s investigation into the incident is active and ongoing. Upon completion, the case file will be submitted to the Cordele Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for review.
