Former Coweta County Deputy Arrested for Alleged Excessive Force Against Restrained Inmate

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has arrested and charged former Coweta County Deputy Justin Alexander Woods, 29, of Hogansville, with Battery, Simple Battery, and Violation of Oath by Public Officer.

The charges stem from an incident on February 24, 2025, when the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office requested the GBI to investigate allegations of excessive force used by Woods against an inmate at the Coweta County Jail.

The GBI investigation revealed that Woods allegedly hit and tased a fully restrained inmate during an argument between the two. The incident was reportedly witnessed by assisting detention officers.

Woods was booked into the Coweta County Jail. The GBI investigation remains active and ongoing.
