Man Shot Multiple Times in Royal Inn Parking Lot, Investigation Ongoing

UPDATE: On Thursday evening, March 20th, officers from GCPD’s Criminal Investigations Division (CID) arrested Maliek Palmer in connection with the shooting earlier this week at the Royal Inn on New Jesup Highway.
Palmer was arrested when GCPD officers arrived at a business on Gateway Center Boulevard and he unsuccessfully tried to flee the scene. GCPD officers took Palmer into custody and he was transported to GCPD headquarters, interviewed, and then transported to the Glynn County Detention Center.
Palmer had confirmed felony warrants for Aggravated Assault, Possession of Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Possession of a Firearm during a Commission of Certain Crimes and a misdemeanor warrant for Reckless Conduct related to the March 16, Royal Inn shooting. In addition, he faced a separate felony Probation Violation warrant on an original charge of Statutory Rape.

The Glynn County Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred on March 16, 2025, in the parking lot of the Royal Inn, located at 5252 New Jesup Highway.
At approximately 4:24 a.m., officers responded to multiple 911 calls reporting gunshots. Upon arrival, officers found an adult male with multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was initially taken to Southeast Georgia Health System Brunswick Campus before being transferred to another hospital for further treatment. His injuries were determined to be non-life-threatening, and he is currently recovering.
Investigators determined that the victim and another individual exchanged gunfire. No arrests have been made, but authorities anticipate arrests will occur soon.
