Armed Suspect Arrested Outside Carrollton Bank After Threats

On March 13, 2025, at approximately 4:00 p.m., Carrollton Police Department officers responded to a report of an armed individual threatening violence at the Wells Fargo Bank located at 848 Bankhead Highway.

Upon arrival, officers found Joel McCarty in a white pickup truck on the Almon Road side of the parking lot. Corporal Kane Moore observed McCarty holding an AR-platform rifle near the vehicle’s rear door and ordered him to show his hands. After initial hesitation, McCarty complied and dropped the firearm.

Due to McCarty’s movements toward his waistband and concerns about additional weapons, Cpl. Moore restrained him for public safety. Officers discovered several hundred rounds of ammunition in McCarty’s possession.

McCarty was taken into custody without further incident and transported to the Carroll County Jail. He faces charges of Criminal Attempt to Commit Murder, Possession of a Firearm During a Commission of a Felony, and Terroristic Threats.

Authorities credited Cpl. Moore and his K9 partner, Olivia, for their swift actions in preventing a potential tragedy.
