Human Remains Found in Cornelia During Rockdale County Homicide Investigation

The Habersham County Sheriff’s Office, Cornelia Police Department, and the Habersham County Coroner’s Office assisted the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office after human remains were discovered in Cornelia early Thursday morning.

At 12:15 a.m. on February 20, 2025, the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by Rockdale County investigators, who believed a body was located at the end of Carpenter’s Cove Lane in Cornelia, as part of a homicide investigation originating in Rockdale County.

Habersham County units assisted Rockdale County’s crime scene personnel as they conducted their investigation. Habersham County personnel cleared the scene around 3 a.m.

Rockdale County investigators have an individual in custody, and authorities have stated there is no danger to the public.

The Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office is the lead agency in the ongoing investigation.
