Banks County Court Requires DUI, Reckless Driving Offenders to Provide New Car Seats

Beginning February 3, 2025, individuals convicted of DUI or reckless driving in Banks County Probate Court will be required to provide an approved, brand-new car seat in its original packaging as part of their legal proceedings.

The initiative aims to address the need for child safety seats while avoiding additional costs for local taxpayers.

“There’s a need for it, and we found a way to provide the need without burdening our taxpayers,” said Cameron Boswell, Probate Judge of Banks County.

The Banks County Sheriff’s Office will assist with technical evaluations and distribution of the donated car seats.

Offenders must choose from the following court-approved options:

  • Graco 4Ever DLX 4-in-1 Convertible Car Seat
  • Graco Turn2Me 3-in-1 Convertible Car Seat
  • Two Graco SnugRide 35 LX Infant Car Seats (offenders must provide two)

“Ensuring the safety of children is something we take very seriously in Banks County. This new initiative not only helps to address a critical need for child safety seats but also emphasizes personal responsibility,” said Sheriff Speed.

The car seat must be presented in a sealed box before offenders can resolve their sentence.
