Second Suspect Arrested in July 2024 Murder of Richmond County Woman

The U.S. Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force, in coordination with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, has arrested another suspect in connection with the July 2024 murder of 54-year-old Argie Jones.
Jaden Polite, 18, was taken into custody after law enforcement tracked him to a residence in Moultrie, Georgia. Upon arrival, officers encountered resistance as Polite barricaded himself inside. Following a brief standoff, he surrendered without incident.
A subsequent search of the residence led to the seizure of two handguns, a shotgun, gas masks, ecstasy, and a large quantity of marijuana.
This arrest follows the apprehension of Tracy Martin, 18, of the 3500 block of Tullocks Hill Drive, who was taken into custody on Wednesday for his alleged involvement in the homicide. The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office credited the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office and its SWAT team for assisting in the investigation and Martin’s capture.
Sheriff Eugene Brantley commended investigators and task force members for their efforts.
“We are making it Priority #1 to remove violent criminals from our streets and ensure they are unable to hurt anyone in the future,” said Sheriff Brantley. “We are working closely with our local, state, and federal partners, including the District Attorney’s Office and, when applicable, the Office of the U.S. Attorney’s Federal Prosecutors, to bring justice to the victims and their families. The citizens and visitors of Augusta-Richmond County deserve to live, work, play, worship, and shop without fear of violence. That is our top priority.”
Authorities encourage anyone with information on fugitives in the area to contact the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office at (706) 821-1080 or, when applicable, 911.
