Three Arrested in Target Shoplifting Spree Across Carrollton

Three men have been arrested following a shoplifting spree targeting multiple Target locations, with officers recovering over $2,300 in stolen merchandise.
On January 15, 2025, around 5:00 PM, Carrollton officers responded to a call from Target’s Asset Protection team regarding a group of known repeat offenders actively stealing items inside the store. One suspect remained outside in a vehicle while the others selected merchandise.
Upon arrival, officers detained Daren McFarland, 40, of Calhoun, GA, in the vehicle. Inside the store, Gerald Griffin, 55, of Lindale, GA, attempted to flee on foot but was quickly caught. Jacob Smith, 27, of Dalton, GA, was also located and detained without incident. Griffin and Smith were in possession of tools commonly used to bypass anti-theft devices.
During questioning, the suspects admitted to visiting nine stores throughout Carrollton earlier that day. Investigators recovered stolen merchandise totaling $2,358.32, which has been returned to the retailers.
A background check revealed that Smith had active warrants in Floyd County, and Griffin had outstanding warrants in Bartow County. Two of the suspects were also out on bond for similar charges.
All three suspects were booked into the Carroll County Jail.
