2023 Murder Suspect Arrested After Standoff in Richmond County

On Wednesday, January 29, 2025, 44-year-old Shawn Antonio Walker was apprehended following a standoff at a residence on the 1700 block of Watkins Street in Augusta (Richmond County). The arrest was made by the Southeastern U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, with assistance from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office (RCSO).
At approximately 5:20 PM, law enforcement arrived at the residence and attempted to make contact with Walker. He refused to exit the home or comply with orders, prompting the RCSO SWAT Team to be deployed. After a coordinated effort, including communication with Walker’s mother, the suspect was taken into custody without further incident.

Walker was wanted in connection with a shooting that occurred on May 22, 2023. Deputies had responded to a shots-fired call at 207 East Taylor Street, where they found Shaneikwa Latorya LaFavor, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Two additional victims, Darius Mayo and a juvenile, were also injured in the shooting.
The investigation led to the issuance of multiple warrants for Walker, including charges of murder, two counts of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Sheriff Gino Brantley expressed gratitude to all involved in Walker’s capture, stating, “We sincerely thank the Southeastern U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division, the Road Patrol, and the Crime Suppression Team for their diligent efforts in ensuring a peaceful resolution to this case.” He also acknowledged the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in apprehending another murder suspect on the same day.
