Macon Drug Trafficker Sentenced to Over Nine Years for Distributing Fentanyl
Gary Hollingshed, 31, a Macon resident, was sentenced to 110 months in federal prison followed by three years of supervised release for distributing fentanyl and other narcotics in Central Georgia. U.S. District Judge Marc Treadwell handed down the sentence on January 7, 2025, following Hollingshed’s guilty plea to one count of fentanyl distribution. There is no parole in the federal system.
The investigation into Hollingshed began in 2022 when federal and local agencies, using a confidential source and surveillance, conducted controlled purchases of methamphetamine and fentanyl mixtures from him in Macon. On February 10, 2022, agents bought 83.9 grams of 98% pure methamphetamine from Hollingshed in a hotel parking lot. A second transaction on February 16, 2022, involved a substance thought to be heroin but later confirmed as a fentanyl mixture weighing 28.56 grams, along with 140.1 grams of methamphetamine.
Hollingshed was arrested on March 9, 2022, in Monroe County after being stopped for a malfunctioning taillight. Deputies discovered nearly a kilogram of methamphetamine, 56.3 grams of fentanyl, and marijuana in the vehicle, which also contained three preschool-aged children.
A subsequent search warrant executed at the residence of Hollingshed’s supplier in Woodstock, Georgia, uncovered over half a kilogram of methamphetamine, firearms—including an AR-15 rifle and multiple handguns—cocaine, crack cocaine, and drug paraphernalia.
Hollingshed has prior felony convictions for burglary and drug-related offenses.
The case was investigated by the DEA, Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, and Monroe County Sheriff’s Office. Deputy Criminal Chief Will Keyes prosecuted the case.
Authorities highlighted the case as a critical effort in combating fentanyl distribution in Central Georgia. U.S. Attorney Peter D. Leary, DEA Special Agent Robert J. Murphy, and Bibb County Sheriff David Davis commended the collaborative work of law enforcement in bringing Hollingshed to justice.
