Gunman Injured in Officer-Involved Shooting Following Camden County Rampage

On Wednesday, January 8, GBI agents launched an investigation into an officer-involved shooting and aggravated assault that left three people injured, including the suspect, Rodney Rauls Roundtree, 55, of Camden County, Georgia.

Preliminary reports indicate that the incident began at a home on the 1700 block of Kinlaw Road, where Roundtree got into an argument with a man and shot him. Roundtree then left the residence, walking down Kinlaw Road, and opened fire on multiple workers at a substation, damaging several vehicles.

Continuing his rampage, Roundtree shot at a van driving along Kinlaw Road, hitting the driver. He then proceeded toward the intersection of Kinlaw Road and Harriets Bluff Road, where he encountered law enforcement. Roundtree exchanged gunfire with officers, who returned fire, injuring him.

Roundtree and the two injured men were transported to local hospitals for treatment. No officers were injured during the incident.

Multiple charges against Roundtree are expected. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation will conduct an independent review, with the case ultimately being forwarded to the Brunswick Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for further action.
