2 Dogs Attack and Kill Young Woman in Augusta, Owner Arrested
On Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at 10:29 a.m., deputies from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office responded to a dog attack on the 3500 block of Ira Road. Upon arrival, they discovered a female victim, 21-year-old Samara Rogers of Augusta, who had been attacked by two dogs. Despite efforts to aid her, Rogers succumbed to her injuries.
55-year-old Charles David Blackwell of Augusta, was arrested at the scene and charged with involuntary manslaughter in connection with the attack. According to deputies, Rogers had been walking on Ira Road when the dogs attacked her.
No details regarding the breeds of the dogs involved were provided. A neighbor said it was a brown dog and a white dog with spots. The two dogs were taken into custody by animal control officers for further investigation.
An autopsy has been ordered for the victim.
