Suspect Flees, Fires on Law Enforcement, Strikes K-9 During Pursuit in Coweta County

On Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at approximately 1:48 p.m., a member of the Georgia Department of Public Safety’s Criminal Interdiction Unit (CIU) initiated a traffic stop on I-85 in Coweta County for a routine violation. However, the male suspect fled the scene, triggering a pursuit traveling southbound on I-85.

During the chase, the suspect fired a weapon at law enforcement officers. Tragically, the suspect’s gunfire struck DPS K-9 Amor, who was assisting in the pursuit. Despite the gunfire, the suspect continued to flee south on I-85 before exiting the highway and stopping in a wooded area. He then fled on foot.

The suspect remains at large, and law enforcement agencies are actively searching for him. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has been called to investigate the officer-involved shooting and is now handling all inquiries related to the incident.

K-9 Amor is reported to be in stable condition and is currently receiving veterinary care for the injuries sustained during the pursuit.
