Alert Leads Deputies to Wanted Suspect Asleep with Loaded Shotgun at Georgia Truck Stop

On November 8, 2024, Crisp County Sheriff’s Deputies, acting on an alert from the Flock license plate recognition system, located a stolen 1999 GMC Denali at the LOVES truck stop. The vehicle, stolen out of Montgomery, Minnesota, was linked to a potentially armed and wanted suspect.
Deputies, along with members of the Mid-South Narcotics Task Force, approached the vehicle, where they found the suspect, 29-year-old Bryton Nelson, asleep in the back seat with a loaded shotgun within reach. Nelson was taken into custody without incident.
Nelson, wanted in Minnesota for Violation of a Protection Order in Scott County and Vehicle Theft in Rice County, now faces multiple charges in Crisp County, including:
- Possession of a Weapon by a Convicted Felon
- Possession of a Weapon in the Commission of Certain Crimes
- Theft by Bringing Stolen Property into the State
