On Wednesday, Brunswick Police Patrol B-1 responded to a domestic dispute in the 1900 block of Tillman Avenue when a male suspect, 34-year-old Jason Walker, fled the scene on foot. Unbeknownst to officers, Walker had outstanding felony probation warrants for robbery by sudden snatching and theft by taking.

Officer J. Smith gave chase but sustained a serious injury after stepping into a hole, breaking his right lower leg in two places. Despite his injury, Officer Smith continued aiding in the pursuit by calling out the suspect’s path. Walker was apprehended by other officers shortly after. During the chase, Walker discarded a backpack containing a handgun.

Walker is now in custody at the Glynn County Sheriff’s Detention Center, facing additional charges including possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, reckless conduct, criminal trespass, and obstruction of law enforcement.

Glynn County Fire Rescue responded to the scene, providing care for Officer Smith, who was transported to Southeast Georgia Health System. Chief Jones expressed gratitude for the prompt response of emergency services and the dedication of the officers involved.
