Homicide Suspect Arrested During Marijuana Investigation in Atlanta

On September 21, 2024, at approximately 10:30 PM, officers from Zone 6 were on foot patrol in the 300 block of Edgewood Corridor Avenue SE when they encountered a male exhibiting suspicious behavior. The officer detected a strong odor of raw marijuana emanating from the individual, who was also seen with a rolled marijuana cigar on his ear.

The officer initiated an investigation, and upon approaching the male, later identified as Dionte Palmer, the officer confirmed the smell and presence of marijuana on his person. Establishing probable cause, the officer detained Palmer, removed the marijuana from his ear, and began to identify him.

While verifying Palmer’s identity through the information he provided, the officer received an alert regarding an active warrant for Homicide issued by the Atlanta Police Department (APD). The officer promptly confirmed the warrant with dispatch and informed the homicide unit.

Dionte Palmer was arrested and charged with Felony Murder in connection with a homicide that occurred on August 15, 2024, at 236 Hill Street. This incident resulted in one male being injured by gunfire and another male being pronounced deceased. Palmer was subsequently transported to APD Headquarters for questioning by Homicide Detectives before being transferred to the Fulton County Jail.

In a related development, on September 27, 2024, a juvenile suspect involved in the same homicide voluntarily turned himself in at APD Headquarters. The juvenile has been charged with Felony Murder and transported to Metro Youth Development Center.

All individuals mentioned in this report are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
