Fulton County Approves $750,000 Additional Funding for Veterans Services
The Fulton County Board of Commissioners approved an additional $750,000 in funding to support vital services for Veterans across the county during its second regular meeting on Wednesday, August 21, 2024. This decision, based on recommendations from the Veterans Services Program (VSP) Evaluation Committee, will enhance health, wellness, housing, and homelessness services for Veterans.
The new funds will be allocated to various non-profit organizations that provide essential services to Veterans in Fulton County. This additional funding brings the total for the Veterans Services Program to $1,000,000, including the previously approved $250,000 in General Funds earlier this year.
Stan Wilson, Director of Community Development, stated, “We recognized the growing needs of our at-risk Veterans, and the Board’s approval of this additional funding ensures that our non-profit partners can continue their crucial work. These funds will directly support the health, wellness, housing, and homelessness initiatives that are making a tangible difference in the lives of our Veterans.”
This year marks the third year of the program, during which the Board of Commissioners has approved a total of $3 million in funding. Since its inception, the program has served over 4,700 veterans and supported 52 agencies. In 2022, the Board established a Veterans Empowerment Commission as an Advisory Board to address the challenges faced by veterans. This ongoing investment underscores Fulton County’s commitment to addressing the unique issues faced by veterans and ensuring they receive the support and services they need.
