Rockdale County Deputies Disperse Illegal Race Meet; Driver Arrested After High-Speed Chase

On Sunday, August 26, 2024, around 12 AM, the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office received reports of a large illegal race meet planned near the old Food Lion off GA 20. Deputies responded to the scene and began dispersing the crowd.

During the operation, deputies attempted a traffic stop on a black Dodge Charger that was displaying no tag. The vehicle fled immediately, leading deputies on a high-speed chase into DeKalb County. The pursuit ended when the Dodge Charger crashed into another vehicle on Browns Mills Rd. No injuries were reported.

The driver of the Dodge Charger was arrested and faces charges including Reckless Driving, Fleeing a Police Officer, and other traffic violations.

Sheriff Eric J. Levett stated, “Street racing is a dangerous and risky sport that is against the law and will not be tolerated in Rockdale County. If you are caught participating in this activity you will be held accountable. Our agency will be approaching our local legislative branch to seek stringent penalties on street racing. The citizens of Rockdale County deserve peace of mind.”
