Investigation into 2012 Murder of Akeila Martin at Statesboro Lounge Remains Active
Victim: Akeila Rochelle Martin

The investigation into the murder of Akeila Rochelle Martin remains active twelve years after her death. Martin was shot and killed on August 19, 2012, at approximately 2:50 a.m. in the parking lot of the Platinum Lounge in Statesboro, Georgia. At the time of the incident, a crowd of 200 to 300 people was present in the parking lot.

Statesboro Police Department officers, who were patrolling the area both by vehicle and on foot, heard multiple gunshots and immediately responded. Upon arrival, they found two victims: Martin and Sadondra Brianna Scarboro. Scarboro was transported to the hospital for treatment of her injuries.

The scene was secured by the responding officers and Detective Keith Holloway, who subsequently interviewed numerous witnesses. A report was compiled, and the case was assigned to Detective Holloway for further investigation. Despite ongoing efforts, the case remains unsolved, and leads continue to be pursued as they emerge.

Detective Keith Holloway’s Plea:

“It has been twelve long years since Akeila Martin was tragically murdered, yet the grief and heartache felt by her family and friends remain as raw as ever. Akeila, a beloved daughter, mother, sister, and friend, was taken from this world in an unprovoked act of violence, leaving a void that can never be filled. Her five children have been forced to grow up without the love and guidance of their mother. Akeila will never see them celebrate their birthdays, attend school dances, hear their laughter, or comfort their tears. She will miss their proms, their graduations, their weddings, and the joy of becoming a grandmother herself. The milestones that should have been shared with their mother have been overshadowed by her absence.

The loss of Akeila has been immeasurable for her children, who have spent these past twelve years longing for the hugs and kisses, the laughter, smiles, and the bedtime stories that only their mother could provide. They have missed the nurturing presence of a mother who would have prepared them for life and loved them unconditionally. They would give anything to have their mom back, but now, the best gift they could receive is justice, and with justice, they hope to find peace.

We know someone out there knows something. We urge you to search your conscience and come forward with any information you may have. I ask you to put yourself in the shoes of her children, her mother, her father, her sister, and her brothers. They are hurting and they want answers. Your courage could bring closure to a family that has suffered for far too long. Justice for Akeila Martin is long overdue, and with your help, we can finally bring peace to her memory and to those who love her.”
